A Promise kept
"Tyr I can’t believe I’m doin this!" I muttered to myself. I grab me belongin’s and head out for me banishment. It was quiet out tonight, guess even the evils don’t wanna be round me! I slip past the guards that I know see me, they don’t miss a thing, but then they’re used to me comin a goin at all hours. My head aches from the pain of what this’ll do to my family! Dang, I even hear some laughter in there! I must be goin nuts.
My trip through Floodbest was uneventful even though I was spoilin for a fight! I did manage to happen upon some poor Bird Bears that got in my way, I felt sorry for’em! Tweren’t much left after I got through with’em. I didn’t feel any better though. I couldn’t get it outta me head what I’d done! How could I do this, now! Here I was hurtin the two closest people in me life! Why did I do this thing?! Rubbin me poor temples I concentrate on the task at hand, to get outta the area as fast as possible!
I ranted and raved through Nightsedge as well, so much that I think I scared even the mighty ogres! Not a one came near me! I could hear my own hysterical voice echoing through the trees! I can’t believe that’s me, but my own ears hear what I yell, though somewhere deep inside a fight raged a constant battle over me! And the laughter coming from somewhere, was I truly losing it?! The voices weren’t my own, but they were there none the less, and I was beginning to lose touch with my surroundings. Had to fight it with all I had to keep my mind on me destination!
Took a wrong turn and ran into the Dragons of Nightsedge, dang it! I know this place like the back of me hand and I make a wrong turn. More laughter! Almost lost the battle, my spells were gone! Adrenaline alone got me thru, and a few lucky saves I guess. I was exhausted afterwards, I almost went to sleep in their lair! Was my mind punishing me? Was Tyr punishing me for asking help for me friends earlier? I did say I’d pay any price! If so, I’ll keep me word. What happens, happens!
The woods at last! Almost to me new home. Laughter again assaults my mind when I mention home! My yelling at myself attracted the creatures of this place. Like a wild animal I fought! I didn’t need spells! I had me own two hands! It made me sick to see, twas as if I was standin apart watchin me tear them into pieces! I even used the hind leg of a giant cat ta beat the others! "Oh Tyr take me now! I ca’nae take this any longer!" I dispaired for an end to this madness.
By the time I’d made it to the east central woods I was as if an animal, no longer caring, only needing to take out my anger on any who passed. Tyr be blessed none crossed my path! For I surely would have killed, evil or not! My shouts rang throughout the whole of the woods as a werebeast sighting the full of the moon! On I trek’d. ever forward. I know not how I knew where I headed, for long since had I lost all reason and since of direction. I don’t even know if I know where I head. Faces appear before me, taunting, pointing, laughing, damning! All members of KORT! My anger grew! This could not be true! But there they were! The ceaseless laughter abounds from everywhere! I fight the urge to call upon Tyr! I haven’t the right.
I start to run! Hoping the blood rushing through my body would drown out the screams! Both in and out of me they continued! Still on I ran. I stopped on a bridge somewhere for a drink, but twas only a cruel joke! I was forced to look upon myself! What I saw was more than I could take! Covered in the blood of those that were now more! Eyes that were not my own stared back at me! I saw anger and pain! More than I’d started out with! Screaming the cry of the damned I ran to the edge of the bridge and straight into a golem! I must have had spells without knowin, cause I picked that thing up and through it at the image in the water! The creature accompanying it ran for their lives, but to no avail! They had witnessed me in this state, and whatever I’d become showed no mercy! I was truly lost!
My arm hurt, but I paid no attention to it. I knew it was broken badly but cared not. What was a little more pain?! It hung limply at my side as I ran on into the night yelling at the voices of laughter in my head! I must get to….I’d lost the memory of where I was heading. It didn’t matter! I only knew that I must keep moving, moving away from what? I can’t even remember that! The transformation was complete! I was no longer Melazar, Page of KORT, ‘Truth Keeper’, Co-Keeper of Valeana’s Garden, I was an animal dressed in a tattered and bloody pure white formal outfit! I hadn’t even changed from the weddin of M’lady Valeana and Areleth!
I ran on and on. Crashing through hedge rows and whatever stood in my way! Like the instincts of the animal I had become, I made a straight line north. I ran smack into a stone wall it didn’t even faze me! Like a rat in a maze I ran along the wall till I call to a door that is no more! On I ran! Almost completely devoid of clothing I ran through the brambles delighting in the pain! It gave me strength! The strength of pain helped me along my unknown path.
The laughter and the faces still assaulted me. Tears had long since taken away all moisture from my tattered body! My eyes became blurry, I panted like a dog! Somewhere deep inside I knew I was dying, I cared not. Something big and blue tried to touch me, it is no more! Something green tried to bar my path, it is no more! Something made of fire made a mistake and is no MORE!!!!!!!!
Something inside told me to stop fighting! Wracked with pain from everywhere, I did not know who to believe! There was only the pain! "Tyr!" I yelled. Where that name came from I know not. It was familiar, yet not. Something blocked my memories! I raged at it! Who was I! What was I! Raving, I ran on into the night! Ahead, ever ahead! Then I stopped when a sound managed to get through my screaming, and the laughter in my head! Or did it let the sounds through, Tyr my head ached! Whichever, I spied a large stone thing ahead. There would be something in there to kill! The animal instincts were complete, I was feral now, totally! A rogue! My mind shouted in joy! Another part, loud in it’s silence beckoned. I listened not! I only knew blood lay ahead, fresh and warm to the touch. I could smell it, and would not be denied!
I found another barrier like before, it is no more! My strength was almost gone now! Loss of blood had sapped me of what little I had left from my trip. I collapsed on the floor panting. The laughter jumped in volume! Words I could not understand, yet could came to me. They said to give up, peace would be found in sleep. Somewhere I knew that was wrong, you never slept while hunting! I was hunting! Faces familiar yet not, called to me with mute voices. I strained to hear them, but received only laughter in return! I looked about me for a weapon. I grabbed beam from the door that is no more. My own lost along the path I had taken this night. More laughter mixed in with my own screams echoed in this stone place. I managed to get to my feet, how I know not. I screamed a curse of anger at what I must do! I had to go on! I ran straight into and through another of those barriers that blocked my path. I felt nothing but the exhilaration of the impending kill!
What I faced would normally have made me afraid for my life, but now only made me go berserk! Without my armor I ran faster than I could remember ever having done in my life! The floating things spat something in my direction as I ran towards the figures in blue. The blue things threw fire at me and I fell backwards. Whatever the floating things did, obliterated the blue ones. They disintegrated before my eyes. Enraged at losing my kill, I ran at the floating things! I swung my weapon at them with such might they exploded one by one in a shower of goo! They tried to do things to me, I felt pain, but again ignored it! It was them or me! My weapon stuck in the next to last floating thing! I thrust my arm inside it to retrieve what was mine, and got only rancid blood that quenched not my fury! I was almost gone, I knew it! I had to defeat this last floating thing! We both ran at each other! It hit me without touching me as I jumped at it! I found myself gasping for air in the darkness! I was blind and could not breath! I was covered completely as if buried alive! I tore at the darkness, trying to free myself! Just as I was about to lose what conciseness I had, I broke free! I had been inside the floating thing! It lay dead upon the same floor I was collapsing onto myself.
The laughter took pity on me I think, for it died as surly as I was about to. I welcomed the peace of death! As The laughter died quieter voices took over. These I could block out! They were at the edge of my sanity and were expendable on my journey. They mattered not. Extraneous! They spoke of a name I knew not. I wished they would leave me in peace! If I had the strength I would surely have taken out me still unquenched anger on them! The voice beckoning me to sleep returned. I fought not this time. The hunt was over. I felt the peace of death coming to take me away. I called to it, guiding it to me. "Here!" I yelled in a dry crackling voice I knew death could hear. "Come and take me away!" Something had given me back my powers of speech and guilt. For now I remembered once what I had done! And once again I screamed, as the blackness of death came upon me. "I..am… ready….now"
